Reserved Resources

Resources are designed to accompany at no extra charge the book Closing the Literacy Gap: Accelerating the Progress of Underperforming Students. (See also Updates for the latest information & additional techniques, assessments, & programs.) The resources provide teaching guides and student materials for the reserved edition of Building Foundational Literacy. Building Foundational Literacy Reserved Edition starts with emergent literacy skills and extends to instruction in multisyllabic words. The program has five levels.

  • Beginnings: Phonemic awareness, letter knowledge, consonant letter sounds, short a, and high-frequency words. Beginnings prepares students for Level A.
  • Level A: Short-vowel patterns and blends and high-frequency words
  • Level B: Long-vowel patterns and blends and high-frequency words
  • Level C: R-vowel patterns (farm, chair, her, door, dear, fire) and other-vowel patterns (saw, boy, wood, book, cow) and blends and high-frequency words
  • Level D: Multisyllabic patterns
