Writing has its foundational skills, one of which is sentence construction. In a recent article, Chandler and Sayeski (2021) presented a plan for developing sentence-writing capability while at the same time building content knowledge. The authors described six instructional activities that range from identifying and revising sentence fragments to using subordinating conjunctions to express complex understandings. The ELA teachers developed the sentence writing skills; content area teachers provided opportunities for application of the skills by having students compose sentences about content area topics. Hochman (Hochman & Wexler, 2017) also has an excellent program for developing sentence fluency.
